Pattern details and finished size

Detail PDF specification
Chart size 100 x 133 stitches
Total stitches 13,300 full cross stitches, including the background
Palette 17 colors with DMC numbers and symbols
Backstitch None
Suggested fabric 14-count Aida
Thread setting 2 strands
Finished design About 7.1 x 9.5 inches / 18.1 x 24.1 cm
Suggested fabric cut About 13.1 x 15.5 inches / 33.4 x 39.4 cm

The suggested fabric cut includes 3 inches / 7.6 cm on every side. The full-coverage rectangle includes the pale background: the PDF lists 6,044 stitches in Blanc and 3,948 in Lemon, DMC 307. Plan for these larger areas as well as the small flowers and facial details.

On 16-count Aida, the design would measure about 6.25 x 8.31 inches before adding a border. Our 14-, 16- and 18-count Aida guide explains how fabric count changes the finished size.

Turning cheerful chick artwork into stitches

Original illustration of a smiling yellow chick with large brown eyes, orange feet and pink and blue flowers.

The original artwork has smooth feather edges, a curved wing and small highlights in the eyes. In the chart, the silhouette becomes stepped stitch squares, with darker brown and orange shades defining the face and feet. The flowers frame the lower part of the tall design.

To create a separate chart from your own animal drawing or photo, upload your image to Crosspic. Crop around the main subject, adjust the stitch size and palette, and zoom in on the eyes and beak before downloading. Preserve enough space around the feet or flowers if you want them included in the composition. See our photo preparation guide for help choosing and cropping a picture.

How to use the four chart sections

After the cover, preview and project guide, the PDF provides four numbered chart sections and a final floss-and-symbol key.

Chart section Columns Rows
1 1-59 1-81
2 57-100 1-81
3 1-59 79-133
4 57-100 79-133

The charts repeat three stitches between neighboring sections: columns 57-59 and rows 79-81 overlap. Stitch each repeated area only once. Use the page maps to locate the next section and follow the printed row and column numbers. Bold lines mark ten-stitch blocks, with arrows at the pattern midpoints.

Print one chart section first to check symbol readability. Mark completed stitches as you work through the broad yellow areas, and check the small symbols around the eyes and flower petals carefully. Our guides to reading a cross stitch chart and printing a pattern can help you get started.

Organizing the garden palette

Sort the 17 PDF threads by symbol and DMC number. Yellows shape the chick, browns define its outline and eyes, and smaller pink, blue and green areas form the garden. The PDF key lists DMC 117 as Variegated Blue; check physical floss or a thread card because a screen swatch cannot show all the variation in a strand.

The PDF's floss estimates include 15% extra. Thread use varies with stitching habits and how far you carry floss across the back. With 13,300 full crosses, plan for several sessions, keep the top stitch direction consistent and compare finished areas with the supplied preview.
